When the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders announced they’d be holding joint practices in Oxnard, California earlier this offseason, it seemed like a fantastic idea.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Both the Cowboys and Raiders are two of the most popular teams in professional sports, let alone the NFL. Combine that with two of the most passionate fan bases and you have a recipe for success. Or maybe not.

We’ve all heard about the brawl between the two clubs which nearly spilled into the crowd on Tuesday afternoon. More of that has continued today as the two franchises have yet again scuffled, though if anything gets out of hand local law enforcement is ready to pounce.

While Oxnard had extra police on hand for security on Tuesday, citing ‘gang colors’, the have apparently went all out today and rolled in the SWAT truck in case things need to be settled down.

Okay, maybe the idea of the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders holding a joint practice was better on paper. I mean, really, an armored police tactical vehicle? I don’t blame the city nor the Oxnard police department for being prepared, especially after yesterday. That said, if you feel the need to bring in such it might be better if the two teams practice against other franchises next season.

There’s no doubt that the Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders holding joint scrimmages is a draw for fans, but you can’t help but worry something could get out of hand as it nearly did on Tuesday.
