Colorado Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki might be a generational talent. The sad thing is, we might never have a chance to truly find out how great his career could have been.

Tulowitzki has struggled with injuries throughout his career, especially issues with his upper leg areas. That is the case once again in 2014, and there are no signs that things will change moving forward. Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that Tulowitzki will be lost for the season.

This torn labrum gets added to the list of significant injuries for Tulowitzki who, sadly, will never be able to shake the label of being an injury prone player.

More from Colorado Rockies

For the first few months of this seaosn Tulowitzki was healthy and put on full display just what a dominant player he can be. His final numbers for the season will be as follows: 91 games, a .340/.432/.603 slash line, 21 home runs, 52 RBI, and a 5.7 WAR (wins above replacement).

That 5.7 WAR in 91 games had already exceeded the 5.3 WAR that he posted in 126 games in 2013.

The Rockies knew that it was a possibility that Tulowitzki would be out for the season when they sent him and Carlos Gonzalez to see specialists on Wednesday. Even still, the fact that he will require surgery on his hip is a jarring bit of news, and one that puts their future plans in limbo once again.

Previously it looked like the Rockies would have the choices to either trade or keep their potential MVP candidate this off-season. Now they just have to worry about him getting healthy and back on the field.
