The Jacksonville Jaguars won’t be anything special this season, but the future seems to no doubt be bright as the team has a potential franchise quarterback in Blake Bortles.

More from Chicago Bears

Drafted No. 3 overall this year, Bortles has been told he won’t be given the starting role in 2014, but he’s starting to show that the high draft pick spent on him might have been warranted after all. There was talk of Johnny Manziel being the pick for the Jaguars, but Bortles has already outplayed Johnny Football in the preseason, and he’s continuing to look impressive.

Bortles made another impressive, pro-style throw against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night, hitting something called Allen Hurns for a big gain.

It’s not that Bortles is making good throws, it’s that he’s hitting not so top flight receivers in making those throws, something that other rookies have struggled with. Bortles may be only playing preseason football, but he’s at least something that Jaguars fans can look forward to as the team limps through another season.
