Green Bay Packers tight end Colt Lyerla has torn MCL, PCL
By Bryan Rose
The Green Bay Packers understandably weren’t relying on undrafted rookie tight end Colt Lyerla to play a big role for the franchise this year, though with question marks surrounding the position there was talk that Lyerla could eventually find himself in position to see some snaps.

That sadly won’t be happening this year as the tight end suffered a torn MCL and PCL during training camp.
It was known that Colt Lyerla went down during a Green Bay Packers practice though the severity of the injury was not made public until today.
"Rookie free agent Colt Lyerla, who is out indefinitely with a torn medial collateral ligament and a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, was asked if he’d like to return as a fullback rather than a tight end."
As to the answer of the question, Lyerla initially scoffed at the idea though later retracted his suggestion that he wouldn’t and suggested he was open to the idea. Clearly a smart move considering that may be his lone chance to make the Green Bay Packers roster down the road and as he stated, ‘pay the bills’.
Lyerla was thought to be a fullback by a handful of teams prior to the NFL draft.
It’s a tough blow, both for Colt Lyerla and the Green Bay Packers as an already thin position becomes even thinner with the loss. It’s not known if the team will look to replace him with another tight end or will focus their effort on filling another position of need.
