One of the bigger announcements during the media briefings at the start of Gamescom 2014 in Cologne, Germany came from the mouths of the Microsoft during its Xbox One conference.
It was revealed in the middle of the conference that the newest game in the reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, Rise of the Tomb Raider, was coming exclusively to the Xbox. However, many people questioned whether it was a true exclusive or merely a timed one.
In an interview with Eurogamer at Gamescom, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed what many had expected in regards to Rise of the Tomb Raider, the exclusive window “has a duration”.
While he confirmed the fact that the game has a duration in terms of exclusivity on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, Spencer declined to comment on just how long it will only be available on Xbox consoles.
“When people want me to say, can you tell us when or if it’s coming to other platforms, it’s not my job,” Spencer told Eurogamer. “My job is not to talk about games I don’t own. I have a certain relationship on this version of Tomb Raider, which we announced, and I feel really good about our long term relationship with Crystal and Square.
Once the period ends, developer Crystal Dynamics will have the ability to publish the game on any and all platforms it chooses.
Rise of the Tomb Raider launches during Holiday 2015, exclusively on Xbox consoles.
