San Antonio still a player for the Oakland Raiders?

Despite earlier reports that San Antonio may not be a feasible destination for potential relocation of the Oakland Raiders, the city is moving forward in its talks with Raiders owner Mark Davis in the hopes of luring the team away from Oakland amid their struggle to find financing for a new stadium.

While previous reports noted that ownership for the San Antonio Spurs remained concerned about a possible NFL team coming in town, it appears at least that much is being laid to rest.
“Peter (Holt, owner of the Spurs) assured Mark that (the Spurs) would not be a roadblock to the Raiders relocating to San Antonio and would find ways to work with them,” a source told reporters at SF Gate.

Would it make the most sense to move the Raiders from small-market Oakland to small-market San Antonio? That doesn’t seem consistent with the way the NFL has run in the last twenty years. It’s more likely that San Antonio is the latest, hottest location that Davis can dangle over California lawmakers in an effort to find a new home for the Raiders — preferably one in Oakland.
