Ziggy Ansah’s Detroit Lions teammates might not have known what to expect from him after Ansah’s return from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list for a shoulder injury. Early indications are that Ansah hasn’t missed a beat, which bodes well for the second-year lineman looking to build on an impressive rookie year.

More from Detroit Lions

“He looks like he’s far ahead and he never missed anything,” defensive tackle C.J. Mosely told The Detroit News. “It was pretty fun watching him get out there and go. He looks faster than a lot of people right now.”

Speed kills for Ansah and he used a whole lot of it to torch opposing linemen to the tune of eight sacks in his rookie campaign last season. The Lions were optimistic they’d found yet another defensive lineman who can put serious pressure on the opposing quarterback, but a shoulder injury landed Ansah on the PUP, casting a shadow over his second training camp.

But coach Jim Caldwell isn’t holding that against Ansah, provided Ziggy can keep up. “(He’s) learning at the wrong time,” Caldwell said, “when we’re trying to do some things that are very, very difficult. So, everybody’s got to make certain that they’re operating without thinking and so I think it’s important that he gets an opportunity. I think he will.”
