The New England Patriots had a huge offseason. They added wide receiver Brandon LaFell from the Carolina Panthers and re-signed their leading receiver, Julian Edelman. On defense, they signed former New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ cornerback Darrelle Revis, former Seattle Seahawks’ cornerback Brandon Browner and former New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Will Smith, among other.

That was supposed to help the Patriots get back to the Super Bowl. However, during their first preseason game, the Patriots were one of the least impressive teams. They could barely move the ball and only late a touchdown pass by rookie Jimmy Garoppolo to Brian Tyms that prevented a shutout in a 23-6 loss to the Washington Redskins.

On Friday, the Patriots played host to the Philadelphia Eagles and after a rough start (Eagles’ cornerback Cary Williams returned a Tom Brady pass 77 yards for a touchdown), it’s been all Patriots. Tom Brady found Kenbrell Thompkins for a touchdown. On the next drive, Garoppolo found H-Back James Develin for a touchdown. On the next drive, Garoppolo again found the end zone, this time locating LaFell, who has drawn rave reviews during training camp, in the back of the end zone.
