The New England Patriots are like the old Mike Shanahan Denver Broncos in that they have no idea who to throw out there at running back so they just collect them to see what happens.

More from New England Patriots

It’s starting to become abundantly clear what will happen when Stevan Ridley is thrown out there — the ball is going to be all over the place and likely not secure in Ridley’s arms. It was a problem last year for the running back and it’s something that has already begun to become a problem again.

Ridley was benched in the second quarter of the Patriots preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles after fumbling — again.

The bad news for Ridley is that he’s not going to be getting many more chances to prove himself and the presence of rookie James White makes Ridley’s chances for redemption even less likely. White has already begun to receive first team carries during 11-on-11 drills in Patriots practice and that’s perhaps writing on the wall for Ridley’s future in New England.
