Although the Virginia Tech Hokies have been down recently (after eight straight seasons of winning at least 10 games, they’ve gone 7-6 and 8-5 over the last two seasons), there is one position they continue to recruit very well – defensive back.

The Hokies turned out a first round pick – the Chicago Bears selected cornerback Kyle Fuller with the 14th-overall pick in the first round of this year’s draft – and some believe Fuller’s little brother, Kendall Fuller, who is entering his sophomore season could be even better. Fuller likely would have been considered the top rookie defender in the ACC if it wasn’t for Florida State Seminoles’ defensive back Jalen Ramsey.

On Saturday, the Hokies added another defensive back they hope can be part of their legacy when 3-Star safety/cornerback/wide receiver Jahque Alleyne gave his pledge to the Hokies. Alleyne looked like a heavy lean to the Kentucky Wildcats and even named them his leader. Since a visit to Virginia Tech in mid-July, Alleyene has been considering the Hokies more and finally decided on them Saturday.

“I talked to my coaches and my family and I just had a good bond at Virginia Tech,” Alleyne told Rivals.com. “I just was comfortable there and I could see myself playing there. Coach (Torrian) Gray and Coach (Bryan) Stinespring both recruited me and I just liked the bond with them.”

The 6’1, 180-pounder is from Virginia Beach and attends Ocean Lakes High School. He is ranked as the country’s 34th-best safety prospect, the 17th-best overall prospect from the state of Virginia and the 505th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015 according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
