Kevin Sutherland had a round for the ages on Saturday at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open.  Sutherland shot a 13 under 59 at the En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, NY.  This was the lowest 18 hole score ever at a Champions Tour event.

The Champions tour is open to golfers aged 50 or older, and was formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour.  The Champions Tour has been around since 1980.

That historic round put Sutherland at the top of the leaderboard through 36 holes of play.  He is now -14 on the tournament so far, four strokes ahead of Scott Hoch.

Sutherland began his round by getting a birdie on each of the first four holes.  He then eagled the par 5 5th hole to put him at -6 through five holes.  He also birdied the next three holes to put him nine under through eight holes.

He parred the ninth to close out the front nine.  He birdied the first two holes on the backstretch before parring holes 12, 13, and 14.  Sutherland scored a birdie on each of the next three holes to put him at 14 under going into the 18th hole.

The bogey on 18 put his score on the day at -13, but it still will go down as an historic round.

Sutherland may have finished his masterful round with a bogey, but he did manage to birdie an impressive 12 holes, and scored an eagle on another.  He also hit an impressive 83 percent of green in regulation, and average 1.6 putts per hole.

The threesome containing Sutherland, Jeff Hart, and Gene Sauers will tee off tomorrow’s third round at 10:46 am eastern.  What can he possibly to for an encore?  Shoot a 58?

I guess we will have to check in tomorrow to find out!
