Raiders’ Matt McGloin throws game-winning TD to Brice Butler (GIF)

There is nothing quite like a game-winning TD in the final seconds of a football game. It’s possibly the most exciting thing in all of sports. Even when it happens in the waning seconds of a meaningless preseason game that everyone just wants to be over, there’s something magical about the play.

Matt McGloin knows what it feels like to lead a late game-winning drive in an NFL game, cause he did it Friday night against the Detroit Lions. The Raiders were trailing 26-20 with time running out when McGloin, on in relief of the injured Derek Carr, began to twirl his magic.
The Raiders’ 68-yard, 13-play drive was capped by a brilliant 19-yard McGloin-to-Brice-Butler TD pass with just six seconds left. The extra point put the Raiders on top 27-26 and that’s how the game would end.
McGloin may ultimately be cut by the Raiders because they don’t need a third QB behind Matt Schaub and Derek Carr, but he will always have his moment of preseason glory to hang on to. He can hold his head up high knowing that he did everything he could to prove himself against the Lions’ third-string defense.
He has nothing to be ashamed of, that Matt McGloin.
