The Chicago Bears have added another weapon to an offense that already promises to boast quite the aerial attack in 2014.

Adam Schefter reports that the Bears have agreed to terms with veteran wide receiver Santonio Holmes.

Holmes is coming off two injury-riddled seasons with the New York Jets. The combination of injuries and shaky quarterback play sapped much of Holmes’ production. In 2012 Holmes played just four games and had 20 catches for 272 yards. Last season he had 23 receptions for 456 yards in 11 games of action.

More from Chicago Bears

One can hardly overstate how different things will be for Holmes in Chicago as compared to New York. Last season he was the nominal number one receiver for a putrid Jets offense that had Geno Smith at the helm. Now he will join a Bears offense with Jay Cutler at quarterback and monsters on either side of him in Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.

Needless to say, Holmes will find a lot more room to roam and get open in Chicago. If he has enough life left in those legs and can stay healthy, he might present a nice option for Marc Trestman as he dreams up game plans for his offense.

Prior to his four seasons with the Jets, Holmes spent four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers that included a game-winning catch in the Super Bowl. No word yet on if Holmes plans to put his arms over his head like a bear to replace his famous “jet” touchdown celebration from the last few seasons.
