By Josh Hill
The Buffalo Bills made a big bet on Sammy Watkins this offseason when they traded up to draft the Clemson wide receiver, shocking everyone in the process. But the Bills got a scare on Saturday when Watkins went down and had to leave Buffalo’s second preseason game with what looked like a possibly serious injury.

Watkins went down early on in the Bills game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday and initially it was feared that something might be wrong with Watkins. Something is indeed wrong with the receiver, as he suffered an injury, but things aren’t as severe as they otherwise could have been.
According to The Buffalo News, Watkins suffered a rib injury that shouldn’t keep him out too long from the sounds of it.
"The Bills announced after the game Watkins had bruised ribs. No timetable for his return was given."
Watkins is going to need to have a huge rookie season for the Bills, as he was drafted in order to make E.J. Manuel a better quarterback and to make the offense more dynamic than it has been. He was the talk of the draft in terms of wide receivers and he enters the NFL as the most highly touted offensive weapon drafted.
Being injured this early on in the preseason isn’t encouraging but things don’t seem to be as serious as they could have been.
