Chargers LB Manti Te’o will miss a week with sprained foot

Manti Te’o’s rookie season was more-or-less ruined after the former Notre Dame superstar suffered a foot injury against the Seahawks in the preseason. Well guess what? It’s 2014 and Te’o is once again dealing with a foot injury suffered in the preseason against the Seahawks.

More from Los Angeles Chargers

I don’t know Chargers, maybe it’s time to start sitting Te’o out in the preseason against the Seahawks?

Despite the eerie coincidence of Te’o once again hurting himself in the same general area against the Seahawks, Charges coach Mike McCoy insists this is a different deal (via utsandiego.com):

"“It’s not the same foot, it’s not the same injury – it’s something completely different,” McCoy said, without detailing the injury’s severity."

Te’o will miss practice this week and be out for next weekend’s preseason game against the 49ers, McCoy said.

Last season’s foot injury for Te’o caused the then-rookie to miss the first six weeks of the season, and even when he returned he never really got things on track.

Te’o really hopes for a bounceback season after a disappointing 2013 campaign but starting things off with an injury very similar to the one that made him miserable last year is not a very encouraging development.

Hopefully a week of rest will be enough to get Te’o’s foot back to 100% so he can return to the field and start living up to some of the promise he showed coming out of Notre Dame. Cause he did show promise. Maybe not as much as some people thought, but still. Promise was shown.
