Recruiting in the SEC is a full-contact sport, that’s no secret, and on Saturday we got the latest reminder of that being the case as Georgia took a 4-star defensive lineman from SEC big boy, Alabama.
It appears that the lure of staying home in native Georgia was too much of a draw to keep Jonathan Ledbetter from flipping his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs.
The once-Alabama verbal commitment made his feelings known in comments via his Twitter page.
He also made his commitment to the Bulldogs known publicly via his Twitter account.
It’s a major get for the Bulldogs in the 2015 class, as Ledbetter is the No. 71-ranked prospect in the country by the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 5-ranked strong-side defensive end and the No. 10-ranked player in the state of Georgia.
Ledbetter had been committed to Alabama since late January, but the Crimson Tide couldn’t hold on to the Tucker, Ga. native for very long.
With Ledbetter in the fold, Georgia moved up three spots in the 247Sports team rankings, going from No. 8 to No. 5 nationally. The Bulldogs also hold the No. 4-ranked class in the SEC with two 5-star and eight 4-star players in the fold as of this moment.
