NASCAR at Michigan results
On Sunday afternoon, the Pure Michigan 400 took place at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan in one of the final races before the Chase for the Cup begins.
Jeff Gordon started the race by sitting on the pole, while Joey Logan sits on the outside with Carl Edwards and Brian Vickers in the second row.
Gordon and Logano took advantage of their top starting positions and were in control for a majority of the race.
After a caution flag with less than 20 laps to go, things started to heat up.
Gordon got in front of Logano after a restart on the 18th lap, and he was engaged in a back and forth with Logano throughout the final stretch of the race. After failing to make a pass, Logano fell all the way to fifth place with 15 laps to go.
From there, Gordon began pulling away from the field and he had a commanding lead with just five laps to go.
That lead was all Gordon needed to lead at the white flag and finish off strong to bring home the checkered flag for his third win of the season. Kevin Harvick finished in second, with Logano Paul Menard and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounding out the top five.
