The Chicago Bears are not expected to have second-year receiver Marquess Wilson for the next 12-14 weeks after he broke his clavicle earlier this month, according to USA Today’s Tom Pelissero.

Wilson, 21, broke his collarbone in three places when he dove for a pass in practice on August 4 and was in line to be the team’s No. 3 wide receiver prior to the injury that could keep him out until midseason.

The Bears signed veteran receiver Santonio Holmes, 30, on Sunday who could be getting more than just a look in the preseason with Wilson expected to remain on the shelf for the next three months.

Wilson could be placed on injured reserve with the designation to return later this season, but that can only be used on one player, so the Bears will have to determine if they go that route, put him on season-ending IR or do neither if they believe he can make a quick recovery.

The Bears have until September 2 to make a final decision on Wilson, three days after final cuts are made.

Last year’s seventh round pick out of Washington State and did not see much playing time as a rookie after leaving the Cougars program after nine games into the season after he had 82 receptions for 1,388 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore.

With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery on the perimeter, the Bears are hoping Holmes has enough left in the tank after battling injury and inconsistent play over the last four seasons with the New York Jets.

If Holmes is healthy he can be an asset for the Bears out of the slot.
