Now that the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to deal for power forward Kevin Love, there has been a lot of speculation they could trade incumbent power forward Tristan Thompson before it comes time to give him an extension.

More from Cleveland Cavaliers

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Cavaliers will eventually trade Thompson.

"I don’t know that Bennett has too much to do with Thompson. The Cavs never seemed to hesitate to put him in the Love deal, but that’s because they apparently want to contend right away. I actually think the Love swap makes it less likely the Cavs will come to a new deal with Thompson, since there’s little reason to keep two highly paid power forwards around. Thompson is a starter in this league, and he’ll have to go somewhere else to do that.Thompson would be nice to have long-term for depth, no doubt, but I don’t think he’ll take the discount necessary for that to happen. You don’t want to overpay a guy who plays behind one of your best players (and remember, LeBron can play power forward, too.)"

Thompson averaged 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds per game while shooting 47.7% from the field and 69.3% from the free throw line. In his career, he’s put up 10.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 47.3% from the field and 63.0% from the free throw line. He was originally selected by the Cavaliers with the fourth-overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft. Thompson is still just 23 years old.
