Rafael Marquez gets standing ovation in Club Leon farewell (Video)

On Monday afternoon, Rafael Marquez and Club Leon took on La Liga giant Barcelona at Camp Nou for The Joan Gamper Trophy. Barcelona was able to outclass Leon on the pitch, but Marquez had a special moment early on in the second half.

The match was Rafa’s final appearance for Club Leon, as he prepares to move to Hellas Verona in Italy’s Serie A.

An emotional Marquez was subbed off for Wanderley de Jesus in the 55th minute and received a huge ovation from the crowd.

Marquez acknowledged the standing ovation and waved to the crowd as he made his way off of the pitch in a Leon kit for the final time.

The 35-year-old Marquez was a captain of the Mexico international team for four World Cups and he is loved by the El Tri fans.

While seeing him leave Leon may be difficult to see, everyone wishes him well in the next and potentially final destination of his long and storied career.
