The New York Giants and their fans are still waiting to see the progress of the 12th overall pick in this past May’s NFL draft. With that selection, the Giants looked to bolster their offense by taking former LSU standout wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

More from New York Giants

Unfortunately for the Giants and Beckham, nagging hamstring issues have limited his play during training camp and the preseason. Ultimately, Beckham is missing crucial reps as a rookie, and he simply can not stay healthy.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin knew Beckham would not play against the Indianapolis Colts this past week, but he did tell the media to expect him this weekend against the New York Jets.

Apparently, Coughlin optimism was misplaced, as today it was officially announced that Beckham will not be playing this weekend for the Giants.

Although Beckham has improved in practice, the Giants are apparently not ready to give him a shot on the field just yet. Keeping him out of the game suggests that Beckham re-injured his hamstring this past week, but the reports are stating that there were no setbacks this week.

It seems the team is keeping Beckham off the field for precautionary reasons, but it certainly is not a good sign for Beckham moving forward.
