The Toronto Raptors are one of the most talented young teams in the NBA, but it appears they’ll be losing a vital asset in the near future and it has nothing to do with their on-court product.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Toronto Raptors CEO Tim Leiweke is expected to step down from his position with the team.

It’s currently not known as to why Leiweke is planning to step away from his duties as Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment CEO, but there are rumors that he could be interested in joining an NFL franchise.

Currently there is no confirmation that Leiweke is leaving Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and the Toronto Raptors for a potential NFL job, just that it’s been something he’s been rumored to have interest in doing for quite some time. Before joining the Toronto Raptors, Tim Leiweke was the CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) which owned and operated not only multiple sporting and entertainment venues around the country, but was also part owner in the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Galaxy franchises. Assuming Leiweke is to leave, he will have only been atop the Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment perch for a year as he signed on with the company last June and helped oversee the Raptors making the postseason for the first time in a handful of years. Update: Leiweke says the report is not true.
