Pittsburgh Steelers’ linebacker Jason Worilds turned in a solid 2013 season.

In 15 games, 11 of them starts, Worilds recorded 63 tackles, eight sacks, and forced two fumbles. It was a breakout season on a unit that needed a boost, specifically when it came to their pass rush. As Worilds and the Steelers prep for another season in the Pittsburgh defense, Worilds looked to be playing well on Thursday night in preseason action against the Philadelphia Eagles.

After busting through for a sack on Eagles’ backup quarterback Mark Sanchez, however, Worilds was forced to exit the game with a knee injury. Worse yet, the sack didn’t even count due to a penalty.

There is a common perception of the Steelers’ defense that it is an aging unit, a group that has long since seen its best days pass. That is true in certain spots, and it makes the presence of a guy like Worilds at age 26 just that much more important to the overall quality of the unit.

In that sense, the Steelers will hope that this is nothing serious and that Worilds will be ready for the regular season.
