For LeSean McCoy and the Philadelphia Eagles, Thursday night’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers has been a roller coaster of emotions.
Early on in this one, McCoy appeared to injure his right thumb. He came out of the game temporarily, but returned in short order. While on the field, the man known as “Shady” took a screen pass to the house for a 23-yard touchdown. He was then forced to leave the field for X-rays on that same thumb, though given the way he looked while he was on the field, it would appear the injury is nothing serious.
The touchdown was a play where he truly looked like his usual self. McCoy showed his elite speed to get up field. At that point he might have showcased some of the juke moves that have made him so famous, but there was really no need thanks to the quality blocking that was in front of him.
This touchdown play, preseason or not, goes to show something: McCoy would be great no matter what, but he is really dangerous in Chip Kelly’s system. With this kind of play design, McCoy will have lots of opportunities where things are simply too easy for him.
