The Patriots defensive first-round rookie hasn’t even been practicing for a week and he’s already impressing ESPN reporter Mike Reiss. He’s showing off a spin move that could illuminate just how essential he can be for the Patriots interior rush this season. As far as Easley concerned, he’s still getting used to everything.

“I feel like I’m a lost kid,” Easley said, via the Boston Herald.

The former Florida Gator is probably overwhelmed by returning to action after injuring both his knees in college. He hasn’t been on a football field in months and now that he’s returned, the speed is much faster than what he was used to in college. It’s a double whammy.

According to Herald reporter Adam Kurkjian, Easley was getting reps mostly at defensive end. He wasn’t outstanding in 11-on-11 work, but his mere presence was encouraging. When he hit 1-on-1’s, that’s when he stood out.

“It feels real good,” he said of going up against the offense in 11-on-11s. “I haven’t done that since last September, so it’s just a work in progress, trying to get better every day.”

You’d never know he was a first-round selection. He wouldn’t comment directly upon whether he’d appear in the Patriots’ preseason game against Carolina. He’s already been brainwashed into Patriots’ speak.

He said: “I’m just trying to go through the (progression) and do whatever I can and what’s best for the team.”

Easley has his eye on a goal that’s actually within his control.

“We all have really one goal,” he said, “and that’s to get a spot on the bus.”

There’s no doubt he will.
