Jets’ Michael Vick content backing up Geno Smith
Although the New York Jets claim they are excited about the future of Geno Smith, who played all 16 games as a rookie in 2013, they signed veteran quarterback Michael Vick in the offseason. Many believed Vick would take the starting but the Jets will continue to go with Smith and Vick seems perfectly fine with that decision.

“The last five years I spent in Philly, I had some great years and played in some great games and went through a lot,” Vick says via Jenny Ventras of The Monday Morning Quarterback. “Now it’s an opportunity for me to refresh myself and take a step back away from the game.”
Vick ultimately wants to be on the field but is enjoying his current role.
“I don’t want that. It’s just—I’m kind of relishing the moment that I’m in right now,” he says. “I am not required to have to do a lot. Preserving my body right now is very important to me, and making sure I can make a strong push late in my career in case I am needed.”
Vick went on to say he was in a “good place” and knows that if Smith struggles, he could get the call.
Vick completed 77 of 141 passes for 1,215 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions last season. Smith completed 247-of-443 passes for 3,046 yards wit 12 touchdowns, 21 interceptions and seven touchdowns.
