Kansas City Cheifs rumors: Justin Houston won’t re-sign in 2014

The Kansas City Chiefs stormed out of nowhere last season to make the postseason and show incredible promise for the future.

But that future is complicated as the team needs to start paying the players who made the team the special unit that it was and not everyone is open to taking less money to help the cause. In fact, no one has been open to that as Alex Smith has a contract dispute, Jamaal Charles held out for a few hours to get a raise and now Justin Houston is looking more and more unlikely to be in a Chiefs uniform beyond 2014.
According to Jason La Canfora from CBSSports.com, the Chiefs star linebacker isn’t going to be signing any contract extensions this season and will be playing out his deal into free agency.
This just adds to the front office headaches the Chiefs have as while Alex Smith is sort of expendable, all things considered, Houston is a much younger player with more tread on his tires and a brighter future. Kansas City doesn’t have to pay everyone but they at least need to consider paying the right people a decent amount of money.
