As late August approaches, Major League Baseball is officially entering the stretch run of the 2014 season. Football is poised to take over much of the national consciousness, but on the bright side, baseball has generated a seemingly endless amount of story lines this season, from tight-knit division races to explosive individual performances that keep the discussion moving from coast to coast.

With that in mind, it is time to provide an update on each of the major award races in both the American and National leagues. The MVP and Cy Young awards always produce a great deal of attention, but the Rookie of the Year balloting is often an indicator of where fans can search for the “next big thing” across the league. Without further ado, let’s take a look at the current placement in each race.
