According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid and Argentina star Angel di Maria could be set for talks with Manchester United after the club made a bid of £56 million (around $93 million). The winger played a major role in Argentina’s World Cup runners-up campaign, though was unable to feature in the semi final, nor the final itself.

After Carlo Ancelotti signed world-class midfielders Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez in the summer window, Angel di Maria has expressed his concern about role at the club this coming season. While Ancelotti attempted to reassure the Argentinian that he remains a key player, the 26 year-old has officially asked to leave the club, alongside fellow midfielder Sami Khedira.

In a press conference, the Madrid coach said the following on di Maria’s situation:

"“Di Maria asked to leave and he refused a new contract offer but he’s a Real Madrid player until we find a solution,”"

The current #22 made 52 appearances in all competitions for Real last season, a campaign in which the Spanish side won the Champions League. Di Maria converted 11 times, with a staggering 24 assists.

While still heavily linked with a move to Paris St-Germain, despite Laurent Blanc stating that a move remains impossible for financial reasons, di Maria’s most likely destination appears to be Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United side. After a 7th place finish last season, Van Gaal has an unlimited transfer kitty to splash out on big players, and has made his admiration for di Maria abundantly clear in the past, labelling him ‘world class’.

According to Cadena SER (h/t World Soccer Talk), the winger has also been left out of Real’s side ahead of their Super Cup fixture with Atletico Madrid. Manchester United are currently the front runners in the chase for Di Maria, though have yet to confirm whether a bid has indeed been submitted for the Real Madrid star.
