Everything is bigger in the SEC—from the stadiums to the tailgates to the coaches salaries and everything in between. So, it would suffice that the SEC coaches would name a preseason All-SEC squad, right?

More from College Football

On Friday, the 2014 SEC coaches All-SEC teams were announced and leading the way were two SEC West favorites—Alabama and LSU.

Both teams put 11 players a piece on the three All-SEC squads announced. Seven of Alabama’s 11 players were named to the first team, while LSU had just one member of its team named first-team. That one player for LSU was star offensive tackle La’el Collins.

Highlighting the first-team was Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall along with running backs Todd Gurley (Georgia) and Mike Davis (South Carolina).

All 14 SEC schools managed to get a player on one of the three teams, and 10 of the 14 teams saw a player named to the first team squad.

Thankfully, rules stipulated coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players in this selection process.

Only two players were named to an All-SEC squad twice, as Alabama’s Christian Jones was named first-team as an All Purpose player and a return specialist. Meanwhile, South Carolina’s Pharoh Cooper was a second‐team All‐SEC return specialist and a third‐team All‐SEC all‐purpose athlete.
