In a few weeks, 32 teams will start the journey to the Lombardi Trophy, a 16-week regular season grind that culminates in either a playoff berth or early tee times. The doldrums of the eight-month offseason will officially be over, as Sundays are once again filled with the action we’ve all craved since February.

And while the entire 2014 campaign is sure to be jam-packed with exciting plays and long lasting memories, there’s nothing quite like Week 1, when every club is 0-0 and respective expectations are at its peak.

There are many intriguing storylines on the docket come Sept. 7 (and a very intriguing one on Sept. 4), but, as always, only the best five made the cut.
