Legacy FC featherweight champion Damon Jackson has been signed to step in on 10-days notice, facing Yancy Medeiros at UFC 177. Medeiros’s original opponent, Justin Edwards, was forced to withdraw from the bout due to a hand injury suffered in training.
To the surprise of many, the contest will be part of the main card after a string of misfortunes hit the UFC 177 card, including the loss of one of two title fights that was scheduled for the event. With a bout between Ruslan Magomedov and Richard Odoms scrapped on late notice, the Medeiros vs. Edwards (now Jackson) tilt moved up the pecking order.
Damon Jackson was last in action in July in his natural weight class of featherweight, defeating UFC veteran Leonard Garcia early into the first round. The win was Jackson’s ninth in a perfect professional career thusfar, finishing all of his opponents including seven by way of submission.
The 26 year-old prospect comes into the UFC with a ton of momentum, and there is no better way to introduce yourself than a win on the main card of a pay-per-view.
‘The Leech’ faces a tough Yancy Medeiros, who is searching for a first UFC win after losing two and having a win over Yves Edwards overturned. ‘The Kid’ was undefeated heading into his UFC stint, going 9-0 with two wins under the Strikeforce banner.
