Manchester United set to sign Angel di Maria next week
By Jacob Cooper
After a frustrating summer transfer window for Manchester United fans, they finally look set to make a huge signing, as Angel di Maria is understood to be on the verge of signing for the club. Di Maria handed in a transfer request earlier this week, and – according to Sky Sports sources – will sign for Manchester United within a matter of days and will be the club’s #7 for the upcoming season.

The news comes just days after Marcos Rojo signed for the club, and will be music to the ears of Manchester United fans who have been calling for a big money signing amid speculation of a move for Mehdi Benatia or Arturo Vidal this summer. While both targets are looking less likely, di Maria could become Louis van Gaal’s fourth venture of the transfer window.
After Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are both on the sidelines due to injury, new signing Marcos Rojo is also unable to feature in the upcoming fixture with Sunderland due to work permit issues.
Sky Sports’ Guillem Ballague understands that the transfer fee for Angel di Maria will be around £48-55 million (est. $80-91 million), also stating the following on the current situation:
"“So advanced, in fact, are the negotiations that it has already been agreed that Di Maria will wear the number seven shirt, worn in the past by no lesser players than David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best and Bryan Robson.”"
Rumours have also suggested that Cristiano Ronaldo has helped encourage the Argentinian join Manchester United, after stating his admiration for the fans of the club. With Real Madrid bringing in James Rodriguez this summer to add to their attacking option, di Maria would expectedly have a much larger role at United than he may have in the upcoming season with Madrid.
This means that, should di Maria join the club, the Argentina pair could both make their debuts in the fixture against Burnley on August 30. Rojo will surely be delighted with the news, after ‘liking’ an image of the pair on Instagram:
