UFC Fight Night 48 results: Milana Dudieva gets controversial win over Elizabeth Phillips

UFC Fight Night 48 kicked off bright and early on Saturday morning with a women’s bantamweight match up between Milana Dudieva and Elizabeth Phillips.

Phillips (4-2) was hoping to rebound from a loss in her UFC debut earlier this year to Valerie Letourneau, while Dudieva (10-3) was looking to keep her winning streak alive in her first Octagon appearance.

Dudieva vs. Phillips would set the tone for the show, so the fans at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena were hoping for a thriller.

Round 1: Phillips started off the action with a stiff jab and she began to circle around the cage showing some impressive lateral movement. Dudieva was being patient, before unloading a heavy right hand and vicious flurry that stunned Phillips and backed her against the fence. Dudieva was patient against the cage, as Phillips began working on her neck. Phillips gave up the underhooks and started working for a guillotine choke, but Dudieva countered with a takedown. After a scramble, Dudieva jumped on Phillips’ back, but Phillips got out of danger and ended up in the top position. Dudieva rolled for a knee bar but the cage was in the way. Phillips began raining down some ground-and-pound to finish out the opening frame and it may have been enough to steal the round. FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Phillips

Round 2: Dudieva had some early swelling on her face when the second round began. Dudieva was throwing some heavy leather, but Phillips escaped danger on the initial flurry. After continuing to circle, Phillips eventually ate some big shots from Dudieva and then found herself on the mat. Dudieva landed a throw, but Phillips ended up on top after a scramble. Dudieva had an active guard and was looking to position herself for a submission. Phillips was working from inside of Dudieva’s guard and sneaking some strikes through. Dudieva began throwing some strikes from her back which cut Phillips open. Phillips finished the round on top. FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Phillips (20-18, Phillips)

Round 3: Dudieva whiffed on a looping right hand out of the gate in the final frame, but Phillips got out of the way and began circling around the cage away from Dudieva’s power. Dudieva moved to close the distance and ended up with Phillips on her back. Dudieva reversed position and began pushing Phillips against the cage and she completed the takedown. Dudieva looked to pass to mount, but she lost position and gave up position. Dudieva threw up a triangle and Phillips immediately got out of danger by moving to side control. Phillips threw some short elbows and rode out the side control until the final bell. FanSided scorecard: 10-9, Phillips (30-27, Phillips)

Official Result: Milana Dudieva def. Elizabeth Phillips via split-decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
