Dirk Nowitzki didn’t care if Dallas Mavericks used his money to buy free agents

Dirk Nowitzki is the man — plain and simple. He’s humble, quiet, generous and he happens to be the best player the Dallas Mavericks have ever had in their franchise history.

But even though he’s an NBA champion and a future Hall of Famer, Dirk continues to show that he’s one of the most loyal players in the league today. According to Mark Cuban, who spoke with the The Dallas Morning News, Dirk re-signed with the team  this summer — at a discount — without assurance that the cash he was leaving on the table would be used on free agents.

"“Dirk is the man. It wasn’t that type of conversation at all,” said Cuban. “Dirk and I sit and talk about all of this stuff. He knows the strategy, what we’re trying to do, why we’re doing it. He realizes that if he [hadn’t taken a discount] the chances of him being in a championship position weren’t nearly as good.”"

This is yet another example of Dirk Nowitzki just being plain awesome. He’s not a guy looking to collect rings or be in the brightest lights possible. Rather, Dirk wants to win with the only team he’s ever known and he proves that loyalty indeed exists in a mercenary league like the NBA.
