Both sides entered today’s match in the bottom half of the league table, with Xolos in better position to crack the top eight and reach the playoffs. With five points to their name, a win for Tijuana would move them into the coveted No. 8 spot.

For Pumas, the start of the Apertura has been brutal, with just one win and four losses. The three points puts Pumas in the No. 16 spot ahead of only Monarcas Morelia and Liga MX newcomers Leones Negros.

When the final whistle blew, Tijuana Xolos and Pumas UNAM finished with a 1-1 draw.

In the first half, both sides had quality chances.

The first significant opportunity came for Xolos, when Juan Arango beat the keeper and narrowly sailed the ball wide of the net.

Just five minutes later, in the 40th minute, Pumas took the lead thanks to a heads up goal from Eduardo Herrera as the ball bounced around the box right in front of the Tijuana net. Unfortunately for Pumas, the lead was short-lived.

Tijuana managed to find the back of the net just one minute before the half after Dario Benedetto made a beautiful run down the left side of the field. Benedetto crossed the ball to the center of the box to Richard Ruiz, who scored the equalizer for Xolos.

We were all tied up at one goal a piece entering the half.

Pumas was finding some rhythm with their offensive attack, but they were unable to find scoring chances.

Xolos started pushing the pace in the final twenty minutes of the game, but like Pumas they were unable to find a scoring chance.

With neither side able to get things done in the final third, we were left with a 1-1 draw when the clock ran out despite one final great chance by Pumas.
