The San Francisco 49ers took a flyer on former South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Lattimore did not play in his rookie season, and he will not be playing for at least the first third of the 2014-15 NFL regular season after being placed on the team’s reserve/NFI list.

From ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

The reserve/NFI list works the same was at the physically-unable to perform (PUP) list, so as Schefter notes Lattimore will not be eligible to play until Week 7.

Lattimore has not played since a devastating knee injury back in 2002, so it is fair to wonder whether he will ever be able to recover enough to step onto the field again.
