In what may be noted as the hip-hop surprise of the year, Eminem has revealed to the world after several hints through social networking that he’ll be releasing his ninth studio album “Shady XV” later this year. To celebrate the news, Mr. Mathers released a brief promotional video to build anticipation.
Flashing through his near-twenty year career, Eminem is set to release “Shady XV” on Black Friday–the Friday after Thanksgiving. According to several reports, Eminem’s ninth studio album is expected to be a double disc similar to Michael Jackson’s “HIStory”, with the first disc representing the greatest hits of Eminem’s 10-plus year career and the second disc featuring newly recorded tracks that’ll feature Shady Records artists Yelawolf, Slaughterhouse, and others.
Eminem has a lot to prove while not having anything to prove at all. Amongst all participants in hip-hop, Eminem is one of the few living legends who remains active in the game–others that come to mind include Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Jay-Z, etc. But these last few years have been a bit rough musically for highest selling artist in hip-hop history.
While his 2010 release “Recovery” received so-so reviews, last years release “Marshall Mathers LP 2″, the sequel to Eminem’s diamond 2000 release “Marshall Mathers LP, was met with harsh reviews–many claimed the album to be one of the worst releases in 2013 as well the worst album out of Eminem’s eight studio albums. Even with critics bashing the rappers latest project, consumers ate up the release, having sold 2.3 million records since it’s debut.
Eminem is set to turn 42 in early October.
