Raiders’ staff feels Derek Carr is ready to start if needed

The Oakland Raiders have a bit of a quarterback situation on their hands. After acquiring Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, they seemed to have a solution at the position, but he has been sitting out practice with a sore throwing elbow, according to the Bay Area News Group.
Schaub’s elbow has no major structural damage according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport. There still is some doubt about whether he will be able to play when the regular season starts.
If Schaub can’t start, the Raiders staff feels great about rookie Derek Carr, who took first-team reps during Sunday’s practice.
Carr had his own injury issues during the preseason, suffering a concussion. Carr is recovered and was cleared early last week and will face the Seahawks in the final preseason game according to Denniss Allen. Carr didn’t play in the last preseason game against Green Bay.
