Robert Griffin III hasn’t helped silence doubters with his play. This preseason, he’s been brilliant and absent minded. His most recent game against the Ravens was more of the latter than it was the former.

What’s worse, backup Kirk Cousins has had better statistics than RG3. And the quarterback cauldron boils over.

“We can’t worry about what outsiders think,” Griffin said, via ESPN.com. “You can’t worry about what doubters or what anyone on the outside says. Everybody in this locker room is all we got and all we need. So what anyone says outside of it doesn’t matter to us, doesn’t affect us, doesn’t affect our approach to the game, doesn’t affect us on the practice field or the game field. We’re the ones that have to go play so you just block all that stuff out and move forward.”

Last year, RG3 had an excuse. He was recovering from knee issues. This year, there’s nothing to blame. RG3 has to rise up and put confidence in his franchise, because in this age of media, blocking it out is getting more and more difficult. RG3 needs to demonstrate development.

“Every athlete progresses differently,” Redskins tight end Logan Paulsen said. “Every individual progresses differently and for a quarterback it’s a slow progression usually to develop a comfort level with a new offense. He’s working against some good defenses. The progression is appropriate, and I think you’ll see how much he’s progressed Week 1.”

It sounds like the locker room is behind him. And the best way to keep them behind him is by winning football games. He can start doing that in week 1 against the Houston Texans on Sept. 7.
