Chicago Bulls rumors: Derrick Rose took most conservative rehab route
By Bryan Rose
It’s been a rough few seasons in the Windy City, not because the Chicago Bulls have struggled (they haven’t) but because they’ve missed former NBA MVP Derrick Rose.

Dealing with two freak knee injuries, Derrick Rose has played in just ten games over the past two seasons. The rehab has been extensive for Derrick Rose, though the point guard took the most conservative route to return according to Basketball Insiders as he was concerned about his future.
"The truth about Rose is that he and the Bulls took the most conservative rehab path possible. It cost him more games than anyone would have liked, but both surgeries were done with the future in mind. Rose is 836 days removed from his ACL surgery and 274 days removed from his meniscus surgery, so the rehab and recovery window is more than complete."
While Rose’s surgery for the ACL tear could only be performed one way, Rose’s meniscus tear could have been operated differently. Had Rose allowed doctor’s to perform a less invasive surgery, the former Memphis Tiger would have likely been able to return last year though, doing so would have very possibly shortened his career.
The fact that he went for the most conservative rehab/surgery route will assist him in extending his playing career, assuming there are no further significant injuries.
It’s unfortunate that the Chicago Bulls didn’t have their star player when they needed him, but the fact he was so careful will hopefully ensure he’ll be around for a long time to come.
