Game of Thrones Season 5: Lena Headey’s breasts embroiled in controversy

Fans of the hit HBO Original Series Game of Thrones have been counting the days (and even the minutes) until the show makes its return in April for the fifth season of the series.

While work on the next season is already well underway, they seem to be running into a pretty big obstacle when it comes to one of the most pivotal scenes from the upcoming season.

In the next season, there is supposed to be a scene where Cersei Lannister, who is played in the series by the beautiful Lena Headey, is supposed to emerge completely naked from a church and out onto King’s Landing for all to see.

I’m sure there are a number of you who are saying “Well…what’s the problem with that?” The answer: for someone like you and I, absolutely nothing; however, for the people of Croatia, where the scene is set to be filmed, there is a pretty big issue.

According to TMZ, the scene is set to be filmed in Dubrovnik, Croatia and the church has a “rigid policy against public displays of sexuality.” Given the amount of power that the church holds in the country, the local film commission has refused to grant producers a permit to shoot the scene.

One would assume that there are plenty of ways to work around this; between the use of a green screen or the creative reconstruction of the set on a site that will grant the permit, there are plenty of things one could imagine to walk around this.

The issue with this is, Game of Thrones has always been known for their authentic looking scenery thanks to the show always being filmed in real locations as opposed to a sound stage with various limitations. Shooting this scene elsewhere would take away from that vibe and possibly tarnish the scene as a whole.

According to TMZ, the producers have not found a way to work around this just yet. So for now, the Church of St. Nicholas will be getting their wishes upheld. Hopefully, the producers are able to find a way to get the scene shot without compromising its authenticity.

Game of Thrones returns for Season 5 in April 2015.
