The Kansas City Chiefs have made the necessary roster moves to get to the NFL mandated roster size of 75. This weekend they will need to trim another 23 players to get to the league mandated 53 man roster. Then they can add ten players back onto their roster via the practice squad. Confused yet?

In order to get to 75 the Chiefs released 11 members of their training camp roster on Monday but still needed to release three more. Today’s cuts included two cornerbacks.

Kevin Rutland and Damond Smith were the two corners and tackle Ryan McKee was also let go to get to the 75 man roster limit.

On Monday the team released wide-receivers Deon Anthony, Weston Dressler, Jerrell Jackson, and Darryl Surgent. The also released defensive lineman Jairus Campbell and Jermell Cudjo along with tight end Adam Schiltz and guard Otis Hudson. The team also released safety Jerron McMillian and place safety Sanders Commings on injured reserve.  The Chiefs also released two other cornerbacks Brandon Jones and Vernon Kearney.

The Chiefs will have a far tougher time making the necessary moves to get to the final 53 man roster on Saturday. Several key positional battles are still playing out including one on special teams where place kicker’s Ryan Succop and Cairo Santos are battling for the job. The picture should become a little clearer following the Chiefs final pre-season contest against the Green Bay Packers Thursday night.

The Chiefs will look over the waiver wires this weekend before finalizing their roster and adding practice squad players. They still have needs at linebacker, offensive tackle, and at wide-receiver. Dwayne Bowe will miss the opening weekend due to a suspension.
