Ace starting pitcher David Price is the last person that anybody should be blaming for the struggles of the Detroit Tigers this month. It’s easy to say that as somebody removed from the fan’s frustration of the moment, however, and not so easy in the heat of an ugly showing.

Detroit fans could not help but get on Price’s case after he struggled in his start against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.

With this game taking place on a national stage, these struggles were certainly unexpected from Price. That would have been true anyway, but it was especially the case on this night because the lefty had been outstanding in his most recent starts.

Of particular note was his historic outing against the Rays in which he allowed only one hit in a complete game and was tagged with the loss.

Even with this blemish, Price is now 12-9 on the season with a 3.32 ERA. For the downswings of the lineup and the struggles of the rest of the pitching staff, few will be pointing the finger at Price if this Detroit season ends in disappointment.

That’s in the big picture, however. On this night, the Detroit faithful could not help but take their frustration out on Price with their team down eight runs early to the Yankees at home.
