Josh Smith rumors: Hornets making trade would be mistake?

The Detroit Pistons have said they’re not actively looking to trade forward Josh Smith, though his name continues to surface in rumors.

Multiple times Smith has been linked to the Sacramento Kings and last week there was chatter suggesting the Charlotte Hornets could be interested in obtaining the talented, though high priced veteran.

The Charlotte Hornets have struggled to attract star power though the recent addition of Lance Stephenson should put them in the top half of the Eastern Conference. Would an addition of Josh Smith help even further? Not likely says Sam Amico of Fox Sports, who gave the following response when asked if Smith could make his way to the Hornets.

I hope not for Charlotte’s sake. Last year at the Cavs-Pistons game in Michigan, the Cavs trailed the Pistons by 17 points and I looked over at Bob Finnan and said, “Don’t worry. Josh Smith will shoot Detroit out of this yet.” Cavs won on a buzzer-beater. Thank you, Josh Smith.

Amico went on to blast Smith’s poor shot selection and suggested he’s not much of a team player, though did go on to say that he believes he’d be a steal if Josh Smith ever ‘gets it’.

Smith is by no stretch the first player such a sentiment was directed at and he won’t be the last.

From a talent standpoint, Josh Smith is about as sexy as they come but he continues to struggle with the mental aspects of the game which has made him go from an All-Star talent to a problematic volume shooter.
