The Washington Redskins didn’t feel as though offensive lineman Mike McGlynn was  going to help them win this year, the Kansas City Chiefs are hoping he can. A day after McGlynn was dropped by the Redskins, the Chiefs have announced that they have signed him.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are depleted along the line of scrimmage after being picked apart in free agency and then failing to add significant help through the draft. Starting right tackle Donald Stephenson will miss the first four games of the season due to a performance enhancing drug test failure. Rookie Zach Fulton is penciled in as the teams starting right guard. Last season’s first overall draft pick, Eric Fisher, who anchored the right tackle position is now on the left side that was left vacant by the loss of Branden Albert in free agency.

In his career, McGlynn has started 48 games out of 57 in his six year career that has seen him play for the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Redskins throughout this years camp. McGlynn should provide the Chiefs with a veteran on the right side who can help the rookie Fulton. While it’s possible that McGlynn could start the season as the teams number one right tackle, he will provide the team depth after Stephenson returns in week five.

McGlynn will turn thirty this year but should be an adequate short term solution for the Chiefs. To make room on the roster the Chiefs waived lineman Ben Gottschalk.
