Ever since the highly popular series Friends aired their final episode on May 6, 2004 there have been talks – mostly among fans – of a reunion show. While an official reunion may never come to pass, fans got something pretty darn close on Wednesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Jennifer Aniston was the guest of the evening on Jimmy Kimmel Live. She was there to discuss her upcoming film Life of Crime, which is due out in theaters tomorrow.
The thing is, Aniston got a lot more than she bargained for out of the experience.
While Aniston sat in her seat prepared for a normal interview, Kimmel told her that he was a huge fan of the show Friends, which got a huge pop from the crowd. He then proceeds to tell her that he loved the show so much that he wrote a fan fiction about it and asked her if she would read a scene from it with him.
She looked a little confused at first, but then seemed to go along with it. The thing is, that is not everything Kimmel had planned. When the curtain on the far end of the stage drew back, we were suddenly transported to Monica and Rachel’s kitchen from the show.
After Aniston and Kimmel were seated at the table, the two of them began to read some incredibly awkward lines from the “fan fiction,” in which Kimmel wrote himself in as Ross. Then…it happened.
The door opens and out walks Courteney Cox with a copy of Jimmy’s script in her hand. Moments later, they were joined onstage by Lisa Kudrow. Needless to say, the crowd went wild at this point.
So what happened to Chandler and Joey and why weren’t they there? You’ll have to watch the video and see for yourselves.
It may have been a little awkward at first, but it seems like this is the closest that we are going to get to a Friends reunion, at least in the near future.
In any case, fans will always have the ten season of Friends to watch over and over again to get their fix until someone finally comes along and makes this Friends reunion happen for real.
Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 on ABC.
