The Dallas Cowboys have been nothing but optimistic during their training camp about the upcoming season. The reality is that the Cowboys could have a potent offense that could score with the best of them, but like last year, the Cowboys’ defense remains a liability.

In an interestingly candid moment for Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who also serves as their chief spin doctor, he conceded that the 2013-14 season will be an uphill battle. He was speaking to an audience that consisted of sponsors and season ticket holders at their annual kickoff luncheon, but turned to face the players and coaches when making the comments.

“You know we’ve got an uphill battle this year, and we do have an uphill battle,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “But most of you knew that when you came to camp. And some of you have absolutely rose to the occasion. Some of you are taking the challenge on.”

Later, Jones added, “This bunch … knows we have our backs against the wall.”

Hard to say that Jones is wrong, the Cowboys have been 8-8 for three straight seasons, failing to make the playoffs in that stretch.
