Nintendo announces Amiibo prices and titles

Nintendo unveiled their plans to bring out a Skylander like accessory that would compliment a handful of their first party games.  In that idea, Amiibo was born.  We have heard plenty now about what the figures will do and what they should look like, but now a pricing structure and title list will give some credibility to the proverbial ball actually rolling.

First, the unfortunate news is that we still don’t have any sort of release date for the Amiibo characters.  With one big title they are tied to, Super Smash Bros Wii U, still being without a release date, Nintendo could be looking to tie them both in together.  However, we now have an idea of what they will cost and how we will use them.

The first pilot set of Amiibo figures were number 12 in total, and they will run $12.99 a piece.  The pilot set includes:

Mario
Donkey Kong
Peach
Yoshi
Link
Samus
Villager
Kirby
Fox McCloud
Pikachu
Marth
Wii Fit Trainer

Some titles to expect to be able to use your newly purchased Amiibo figures include, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi’s Woolly World.  At this point, no details as far as how the Amiibo characters will function has been announced.

Amiibo figures will also work with the 3DS using a standalone peripheral, as well as working directly with the New Nintendo 3DS.

The pilot set is immediately available for pre-order for those who wish to be early adopters.  At this point however, it’s nearly September and we appear to be no closer to a known release date for Amiibo’s or Super Smash Bros Wii U, that is not a good thing Nintendo.
