Texas A&M win over South Carolina means $1M refund in furniture
Ashley Furniture in College Station had a pretty big pill to swallow after Texas A&M’s 24-point rout of South Carolina Thursday. The store offered that all furniture from Aug. 16 through Aug. 27 would be free if the Aggies beat South Carolina by ten points or more.

Mark Wilks, who owns the store, told ESPN.com on Thursday night that more than 600 people bought items during that time period totaling more than $1 million in sales. One customer bought $20,000 worth of furniture. The store is an official sponsor of Texas A&M athletics.
Wilks said that the promotion led the store to it’s best month ever in the eight years it’s been open.
“We’ve wanted to do this for three or four years now,” Wilks told ESPN.com. “This was really good for us.”
The furniture store is not going out of business thanks to fact that Wilks took out insurance. With the Aggies a 10½-point underdog, Wilks was able to get the insurance relatively cheap. He says he’ll pay the insurance company roughly 15 percent of the total that they will reimburse to customers.
The Aggies 24-point win at South Carolina created a new Heisman Trophy contender in sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill, who set the Texas A&M single game record with 511 passing yards. Hill also threw three touchdown passes.
With the performance, Hill has moved up to the seventh favorite to win the Heisman Trophy with 12-1 odds according to Sportsbook.
